Routine
Three routines that keep the week level
You can't control how busy your job or your side work will be in a given week. You can keep a few routines steady, so a rough week doesn't throw everything off.
One fixed slot
Choose one or two regular times for side work, such as Monday and Thursday evenings. A fixed slot is easier to protect, and easier to skip cleanly when needed.
A weekly review
Fifteen minutes once a week: what's due, what's been paid, what needs a reply. It catches problems while they're still small.
A protected rest day
One day a week with no side work at all. It's the routine most often given up, and the one that matters most over months.
Skip a slot, keep the system
When a day goes wrong, skip that slot and move on. Trying to catch up late at night usually costs more than it saves.
